Bangladesh has significantly expanded its power sector, achieving over 98% electricity access and a generation capacity of 25,000 MW. The energy mix is dominated by natural gas, followed by oil, coal, and a small share of renewables. Challenges include overreliance on fossil fuels, grid inefficiencies, and rising energy demand. The government is promoting renewable energy through solar home systems, utility-scale solar projects, and regional power trade. A target of generating 10% of electricity from renewables has been set. Despite progress, ensuring energy security, affordability, and sustainability remains critical. Future plans include diversifying energy sources, improving grid infrastructure, and increasing green energy investments to meet the growing needs of the economy and population.
