The Two Hinged Arch Unit
The Two Hinged Arch Unit, “QCLab”, allows the study of the response of an arched beam when an external load is applied.
The arch is supported on two supports—one fixed and one movable. The displacement and horizontal reaction experienced by the arch under specific loading conditions can be studied through the movable support.
To analyze the displacement of the arch, weights are applied using a weight hook. A dial indicator is used to accurately measure the resulting deflection.
For studying the horizontal reaction of the arch, two weight hooks are utilized: one to deform the arch and another to balance the deformation. Additionally, two dial indicators help confirm that the arch returns to its original equilibrium position after deformation.
