The Sand Equivalent Test Set is typically used in civil engineering and construction industries to assess the quality and suitability of fine aggregates, such as sand, for various applications. The test is primarily employed to determine the relative proportions of undesirable clay-like or plastic fines in the aggregate sample.

The Sand Equivalent Test measures the ratio of sand to clay-like or plastic fines in the aggregate material. It helps evaluate the cleanliness and potential for cohesive behavior of the aggregate, which is important for applications like asphalt and concrete mixtures. The test provides an indication of the material’s resistance to degradation and its potential impact on the performance and durability of the final product.

We offer two versions of the Sand equivalent test set, one conforming to EN 933-8, the other to ASTM D2419.

The two sets comprises:

  • Four measuring cylinders
  • Two rubber stoppers
  • One measuring can
  • One  irrigator tube,
  • One siphon assembly with bottle
  • One weighted foot
  • One funnel
  • One graduated rule
  • One liter of stock solution (packed separately)
  • A plastic carrying case.

Each item can be ordered individually (see accessories). All items are housed in the plastic carrying case except the Siphon assembly with Stock solution bottle which are packed separately.

The two sets are identical except for the four measuring cylinders which are totally graduated in the ASTM/AASHTO version and for the weighted foot which is slightly different.

For a reliable test result we recommend the use of a mechanical shaker. Please refer to the related product section.
